WEI YUAN WANG
She/her
Born in 2001, Taipei, Taiwan. Currently base in New York. MFA candidate in Printmaking at Pratt Institute.
Weiyuan received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Chinese Painting from Taiwan, where she developed a deep engagement with traditional Eastern materials such as hemp paper, rice paper, silk, and Nihonga pigments. After graduation, she worked as a freelance graphic designer, during which she became fascinated by the process of publishing—especially the concept of duplication that underlies printed media. This curiosity naturally led her to pursue printmaking in New York.
Her practice explores the boundaries and possibilities of printmaking through playful experimentation with materials and processes. She has used food coloring in silkscreen printing on pasta, employed alkaline chemicals for intaglio corrosion, and experimented with CNC routers to create drypoint on copper. Her works often merge illustration and mixed media, balancing precision with humor and curiosity about the material’s behavior.
